Two of the biggest cinema blockbusters of the year so far are just weeks away from streaming through Amazon 's Prime Video.

Everyone's favourite plumber Mario should be jumping on the platform with the Super Mario Bros. Movie in May, alongside an all-guns-blazing Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4.

Both titles will be available to rent, according to the streaming giant.

Despite lukewarm critics' reviews, the first CGI-adaptation of Nintendo's juggernaut Super Mario video game franchise has proved a phenomenal commercial success.

The Super Mario Bros Movie has already crossed the $500 million mark at the international box office, making it the top-earning video game movie of all time, according to Variety.

It stars Guardians of the Galaxy's Chris Pratt as Mario, The Queen's Gambit's Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and comedy legend Jack Black as villain Bowser.

The classic caper of good versus evil sees Brooklyn plumber Mario and newfound chums journey through the fantastical Mushroom Kingdom to find Luigi as they save the world.

The film's divisive popularity recalls Hugh Jackman's The Greatest Showman, where critics generally weren't that keen - but audiences loved it.

Movie aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes ' Tomatometer - which is based on the opinions of hundreds of film and television critics - gave The Super Mario Bros. Movie a mere 58 per cent, which is a stark contrast to the 96 per cent Audience Score.

What the critics say about the Mario movie

Martin Shore of What To Watch said: "The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a little too afraid to stray from the brothers' origins for its own good but delivers an entertaining adventure all the same."

James Mottram of South China Morning Post said: "An impressive Hollywood A-list voice cast and a script filled with nods to the video game series adds to the appeal, although by about the hour mark, you might well feel this is just one long chase movie."

Sara Michelle Fetters of Moviefreak.com said: "Kids may have the time of their lives watching The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but for most adults, this is game over."

George M.Thomas of Akron Beacon Journal said: "You can put "seeing The Super Mario Bros. Movie" under the list of parental duties."

Fatima B posted: "For someone who grew up playing Super Mario Bros. this movie did a well adaption of the fun and memorable soundtrack Mario had. I enjoyed the movie! They did so well!"

Discord A said: "(this is) my favorite movie of all time and whatever the critics said was completely wrong.

"This is a love letter to Mario fans and the movie was super accurate to the games, instead of taking place in the real world which is what Hollywood usually does."

John Wick: Chapter 4 arrives all guns blazing in May

With a healthy 8.2 on IMDB, the fourth instalment of Keanu Reeves ' popular John Wick franchise has gone down a storm with both critics and audiences.

And it should arrive to rent in May on Prime Video.

The story sees our titular hero uncover a path to defeating the dozen crime lords known as The High Table.

But before our man can earn his eagerly-anticipated freedom, he must face off against a new adversary with powerful allegiances across the world, dramatically turning old friends into foes.

Cadillac20 posted on IMDB: "Not just the best John Wick, but possible one of the best action movies ever".

Jtindahouse said: "This is how you justify a three-hour runtime. The action sequences in this film are perfectly shot - as they always are in this series. Lovely, wide camera angles so we can see every thing that happens and know that it isn't all being edited to look this way. These people are actually doing these things!"

Brandon_Walker_Robinson posted: "That lasted 169 minutes? I had no idea. The time just flew right by."
