Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 's popularity has risen after the couple finally announced their Coronation plans.

The Duke of Sussex will return to the UK for King Charles' Coronation on May 6, while the Duchess of Sussex will remain at home in California with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The announcement now ends months of speculation about whether or not the couple would be at the historic event at Westminster Abbey, which falls on the same day as Archie's fourth birthday.

A new poll has shown the couple's popularity in the US has noticeably improved.

A survey asked 1,500 registered voters in America if they viewed various members of the British Royal Family favourably or unfavourably.

The research, which was conducted for Newsweek, shows of those surveyed, 39 percent viewed Harry favourably compared to 32 percent in February.

Meghan's popularity has also increased to 33 percent in April from 27 percent two months ago.

Prince Harry is expected to make just a flying visit to the Coronation before heading home to California, with the Duke set to miss out on a host of celebratory events.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Prince Harry will be part of the congregation inside Westminster Abbey to see his father and Queen Camilla being crowned.

However, it's been said he will only attend the Coronation ceremony itself and no other Royal events.

Friends of the couple said the fact that Archie's fourth birthday falls on the same day as the once-in-a-generation event was a 'factor' in the decision for Harry to attend on his own.

After the announcement was made, Omid Scobie - a journalist whose work focuses on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - tweeted: "I understand that Archie's fourth birthday (also on May 6) played a factor in the couple's decision.

"Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey."

It has also been reported that the Sussexes had concerns about how their attendance might be received by the British public, especially off the back of bombshell interviews with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, and their Netflix documentary series.
