A grandad was left seething when he bought a large mocha from Costa Coffee - only to find his cup half empty.

Nick Robinson, 60, was visiting a patient at Great Western Hospital in Swindon, Wiltshire, when he grabbed a quick hot drink on his way out.

The dad-of-two paid £3.45 for a large mocha from the hospital's in-house branch of the high street coffee chain.

The self-employed property maintenance worker paid up, took his coffee and headed back to work on March 29.

It wasn't until he arrived at his next destination that he was dumbfounded to find that his cup was almost empty - and Costa Coffee has since apologised for the incident.

Nick, from Swindon, said: "When I went to have a sip, the cup seemed to go up quite far as I waited for a sip.

"I took the lid off and realised it was only just over half full, so you can pay for a large and you can possibly get a medium."

Nick said he hadn't noticed the cup wasn't full when he bought it and put the cup straight into the drinks holder in his van.

He fumed: "There was a lot of stains and froth remains on the side of the cup which someone pointed out when I posted the photo on social media.

"People commented that it seems like I had drank some.

"This is not the case and what they could see was either remains of melted froth - or a result of Swindon's bumpy potholes roads!"

Nick has since vowed not to visit that store again - and said he was "hacked off" about the experience.

He said: "I hardly ever drink Costa as I find it expensive but now and again it's nice to have one.

"I was at GWH again last Sunday and walked right past Costa.

"I wanted a coffee but why should I fill their pockets if they can't even fill a cup?

He added: "People have asked me 'why are we having a story about costa coffee with everything going on in the world?'

"But we're in a cost of living crisis and I work hard for my money.

"I'm not looking to get anything out of it, I just wanted to warn people to check their drinks before leaving."

A spokesperson for Costa Coffee said: "We were sorry to learn that Mr Robinson was disappointed with his coffee.

"[We] have asked that he get in touch with us directly so we can resolve the situation and look to ensure it doesn't happen again."
