A private investigator has insisted Julia Wendell "is not the guilty person", after she came forward with her belief that she could be missing person Madeleine McCann.

Julia, who also goes by the names of Julia Faustyna or Julia Wandelt, gained widespread attention after suggesting she could be Madeleine, who disappeared at the age of three while on holiday with her family in Portugal.

Dr Fia Johansson, who had been helping Julia, said she had no choice but to go public with her claims after getting "no response" from the police.

The celebrity psychic told The Mirror: "She had no choice.

"Julia had sent emails to all these different organisations, including the police, but got no response. If the real Madeleine is out there and they did the same thing to her, what would happen?"

Dr Johansson added: "Julia is not the guilty person. The higher people are the guilty ones.

"It could have cost $500 for the police to fly to Poland and do the DNA test. Nobody did it. Nobody gave her closure."

Dr Johansson also suggested the 21-year-old could actually help detectives as they try to work out what happened to Madeleine.

"I believe in this now, I believe if Julia did not come out the way she did, there would not be the interest in Madeleine's case.

"At least Julia warned people not to give up on Maddy's case. Next time, it could be Madeleine."

She added: "Julia had marks on her eye and the birthmark. It was the same eye, in the same place. I believe it was a meaning.

"The victory of this case is we got new evidence, news stories. I'm glad investigators stood up and gave the investigation more funding.

Julia has now returned to Poland to be with her father after DNA results confirmed that she is from Poland, with some Lithuanian and Romanian heritage.
