Two passengers were escorted off an easyJet flight by police after it landed in Geneva, Switzerland, who were ’behaving disruptively onboard’ the flight from Birmingham Airport.

Airline staff had to take swift action to maintain safety on an easyJet flight from Birmingham Airport to Geneva, Switzerland.

Everything seemed normal on the flight, which departed at around 5:15pm on Sunday, February 2, until it landed in Geneva one hour and 45 minutes later. Upon touching down, six police officers boarded the plane and escorted two passengers off the aircraft. A witness on board told BirminghamLive that he had "never seen anything like it."

A spokesperson for easyJet told the publication that the officers were called to handle two passengers who were "behaving disruptively onboard." Birmingham Airport’s spokesperson stated that there were no recorded incidents in the terminal that day, but they "work closely" with terminal retailers to manage disruptions.

An anonymous passenger claimed that before the flight a group of travellers were playing drinking games in an airport pub, being "rude to bar staff" and becoming increasingly disruptive. The passenger, who was in Geneva for a snowboarding holiday, said he was seated away from the group during the flight but noticed their disruptive behaviour, reports Birmingham Live.

"When we landed in Geneva we pulled into the gate we got an announcement that said ’please remain seated and do not remove your seatbelts’," the passenger explained.

"Six police came on the plane went to the back and removed two of the guys from the plane. Four of the group were definitely still on it. There were quite a few disgruntled passengers at the the delay getting off. It was mostly skiers on the flight trying to make connections. You don’t expect that I have never seen anything like it."

Addressing the incident, an easyJet spokesperson confirmed: "Flight EZY2684 from Birmingham to Geneva on 2 February was met by police on arrival due to two passengers behaving disruptively onboard."

"easyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and acted quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers was not compromised at any time. Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard.

"As police attended the aircraft, in line with security procedures passengers were required to remain onboard whilst the disruptive passengers were escorted off the aircraft and we thank them for their patience and understanding. The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is always easyJet’s priority."

A spokesperson for Birmingham Airport added: "Birmingham Airport (BHX) did not receive any reports regarding these passengers or this flight. However, customers travelling through BHX can be reassured that the airport works closely with all third parties including the police, airlines and food and beverage retailers to minimise any issues of potential passenger disruptive behaviour."
