A huge blaze on the set of the Lord of the Rings TV series has caused cast to flee in full costume.

Thick smoke can be seen billowing into the air in photos shared on social media from Bray Studios near Windsor, Berkshire, today.

Actors dressed as orcs could be seen after being evacuated while site staff were watching the fire, which started in a single story warehouse.

Fire crews rushed to the scene - less than three miles from the Royal Family's Windsor Castle estate.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service told the Mirror firefighters remained on site after being dispatched just before 12.30pm.

Filming for the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power second series got underway earlier this year.

A castle courtyard has been constructed at the studios as part of the shoot for the Amazon series.

The architecture, including towers with Celtic knot-style patterns and covered passages, has led fans to believe it is for scenes in the elven region Lindon.

The first series of the Tolkien prequel was released on the streaming service last year and reportedly cost £1billion.

It received mixed reviews, though five series are planned.
