Boris Johnson’s Partygate defence is a disgrace. He claims he didn’t intentionally or recklessly mislead Parlaiment, although along with Hancock and others he made the rules which he then broke.

As usual it’s a case of rules are for the underlings, not the higher-ups. It’s like saying I didn’t mean to falsify my expenses claim but my advisers didn’t tell me I had filled in my form wrong.

Johnson was squirming like a worm on a fishing line and when things got tough, he used his usual angry blustering tactics.

Most people don’t trust a word he says. He should accept his fate.
