'My daughter called my girlfriend a gold digger so I uninvited her from my BBQ'

A dad has faced a huge backlash from his daughter as he uninvited her from a family BBQ after she referred to his new partner as a 'gold digger.' The man had been an absent father for many years but was excited to introduce his new partner to her and the rest of the family over a nice dinner.

However, at the dinner he got into a bit of a row with his 13-year-old kid which resulted in her using the slur against the girlfriend.

In response, he decided not to invite her to the BBQ but much of the family still side with the kid.

Taking to Reddit, the dad added that he blames himself for the sour relationship with his daughter but does not think she should have said that about his partner.

In the post, the man, who remained anonymous, explained: "Six months ago I started dating my current girlfriend.

"About six weeks ago I invited most of my family out to dinner (my daughter, my siblings and their partners, my parents), I felt like our relationship was at a point that I wanted to introduce her as my girlfriend to the family."

He added that the family members seemed to like her and all was going well but at some stage in the night he got into a row with his daughter.

"I honestly don't even remember what it was about and during that argument she called my girlfriend a gold digger and left shortly after. She generally just ruined the whole dinner," he said.

"I'm not delusional, I know one of the reasons that my girlfriend is with me is money and I assume everyone else in the family knows that too, same way one of the reasons I'm with my girlfriend are her looks.

"Last weekend I threw a small indoor BBQ dinner at my house and I again invited most of my family and a few friends and some of my girlfriends friends. But I didn't invite my daughter."

When she found out she was not invited, his daughter was furious and sent him a slew of messages about how selfish he was being. And one of his sisters has even agreed with the kid.

In response, many have sided with the daughter and said the dad is not acting like he should be.

One person wrote: "So you’re acknowledging that she’s with you at least partly for your money, but your daughter doesn’t have the right to share that opinion?"

While another stated: "He straight up admitted he’s shallow and his girlfriend is materialist. So he just needs to admit he values his young, attractive, materialistic girlfriend more than his daughter."

A third penned: "About as selfish as they come for putting everything before your child."
