The Hydra Pool at David Lloyd Clubs
The Hydra Pool at David Lloyd Clubs's, Warrington is an absolute gamechanger

When approached by David Lloyd Club's to complete a trial period at my local gym I was so up for the opportunity, I have even completely abandoned my own gym for the time being to give it a good go.

David Lloyd have always seemed far too expensive for me to be able to afford - with a monthly cost nearing £100 - I have just never been able to justify spending so much on something just for 'me'.

I am a mum of one and have lived as a single parent for most of my little boy's life, so it would have never been in financial reach for me to do. David Lloyd Club's offered me the trial period to test out their new Fitness Personality Quiz to distinguish what type of gym goer I am, and I wasn't shocked at the findings.

New research from David Lloyd Clubs in partnership with habit forming psychologist Dr Josephine Perry, reveals that finding a type of exercise you love rather than looking for quick fixes is the key to long-term success, so in comes the Fitness Personality Quiz.

I took the quiz and you get automatic results.

I am what is called a 'Lone Ranger' trainer based on the quiz formulated by David Lloyd Club's Falling In Love With Fitness Campaign, it made me really consider the type of training I pack my week with, and I have found ways of training which are more beneficial to me.

I tend to feel quite overwhelmed in my day to day life with a hectic work and home life balance, so relaxing has to also be a big part of my 'me time'. I found that the gym with spa facilities made me relax after my workouts before returning home to the chaos.

I mainly will train in a quiet corner of the gym, where there are yoga matts and light weights, it's where I feel most comfortable in there. The gym is always packed, with such a mix of people from kids and parents to OAP's so it feels great to walk into a gym and not feel judged with people from all walks of life in there just doing what they need to do.

The quiz findings also made it apparent that I like to zone out and train alone when in the gym, and that is something I have always really enjoyed. Although me and my partner plan to train together, I do like to be able to put in my earphones and really power through my workouts with my music blasting.

I think it's really important to find a gym which better suits you, and David Lloyd Clubs has definitely shown me that I am willing to pay a little more (around £50 more a month), if it means I can have fantastic facilities just like this gym.

Verdict

'I trialled a David Lloyd Clubs gym and it's transformed my lifestyle'The swimming pool and outdoor pool are massive perks to this gym (David Lloyd, Warrington)

The David Lloyd Club, Warrington where I have carried out my sessions has really opened my eyes to what I would like to focus on when choosing what gym suits my needs best, and most importantly what facilities I really need included.

Although it is much pricier than my gym membership I currently use, still, the facilities are far more superior, and the spa facilities with outdoor pool and Hydra Pool are such a great extra when you want to escape your busy, home lifestyle for an hour or two.

I think the fitness quiz initiative is great, because then, once you receive your results, you get some suggested activities in your evaluation to consider. Mine included gym-based workouts, meditation, SPIRIT (Yoga & Pilates Inspired Class), yoga and spa (which I can enjoy at the gym). Other recommended activities include canoeing, climbing, cycling, walking, running or swimming.

This analysis couldn't have been better suited to me and what I enjoy doing to stay fit- I use the gym and spa regularly and much prefer the summer to be able to make the most of outdoor, fun activities.

Have a look what your local David Lloyd Club's gym has to offer here.
