Fawlty Towers is set to return to our screens after more than 40 years, starring John Cleese alongside his daughter - and we want to know what you think.

The iconic sitcom, written by Cleese and Connie Booth, left BBC Two in 1979 after a four-year run and remains one of the nation’s favourite comedies decades later.

The original show followed the unfortunate misadventures of highly-strung Torquay hotelier Basil Fawlty, played by Cleese, and his wife Sybil, portrayed by Prunella Scales, as they struggled to keep their hotel and marriage afloat.

Now, the 83-year-old will revive his role in the new series, which will explore how Basil functions in the modern world as he sets about running a new boutique hotel with his estranged child, played by Camilla Cleese.

When the reboot was announced by Castle Rock Entertainment on Tuesday, fans were split over its comeback - with some stating it could “ruin the legacy”.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “Please don't, Fawlty Towers is a classic of British comedy. Don't ruin the legacy with a reboot that can't live up to the original.”

Another added: “That Fawlty Towers reboot doesn’t half fill me with dread. Such a legendary show, so hard to see how it can do anything but damage the original's reputation.”

Meanwhile, others are excited for the new series, adding that Cleese is a “comedy genius”.

“I personally cannot WAIT for a Fawlty Towers reboot. @JohnCleese is a genius and British stalwart in comedy. I trust him implicitly to bring the giggles back,” penned one person.

A fourth said: “Just heard the news. Fawlty Towers is my favourite sitcom and I’m delighted to hear of the reboot. I trust you two to make a worthy extension and can’t wait!”
