The 'leaked' Arsenal kit has divided opinion

Arsenal fans are torn over a new kit design, after a design purporting to be the home shirt for the 2023-24 season was posted online.

The shirt doesn't make too many changes to the classic red and white colours the Gunners have worn for the majority of their time in the Premier League. However, in a change from the current season's kit, the leaked shirt carries a gold trim.

This has prompted some to share their fears that the design will look out of place if Mikel Arteta's side are unable to clinch the Premier League title. Arteta's men sit eight points clear as they prepare to return from the international break, but second-place Manchester City have a game in hand.

"I like the gold detailing. Ties in well with these on the sleeve," one fan wrote on Twitter, while sharing a photo of the gold-trimmed patches worn by the reigning Premier League champions. Others, however, were not quite as confident going into the home straight.

"Only put gold on our kit if we win the league - otherwise we don't deserve it!" one supporter wrote. However, another pointed out there could be another reason for the colour scheme. "20th anniversary of the Invincibles. Gold going to be on it regardless of the league finish," they explained.

Others had different reservations. "Nice, but I don’t think it beats this seasons shirt - wish it did!" said one, while other supporters described the gold element as "awful" and "hideous".

Arsenal are in great shape to lift the title for the first time since 2003-04, when their 'Invincibles' side went an entire league season unbeaten under Arsene Wenger. Dutch striker Robin van Persie joined the Gunners off the back of that season, and has backed his former club to end their long wait for glory.

"If you look at this period of time, this is where every single point really counts," Van Persie told Sky Sports. "They've got [had] a couple of difficult games. They got the three points there, so that is what a champion's team is made of.

"They've been proving that. But the last stretch is always the difficult one, so it'll be interesting to see. But my personal feeling is that they will go for it - that they will win the league. It's been a while, so I'm happy for them to win it."

Arsenal return to Premier League action on April 1 with a match at home to relegation-threatened Leeds United. If they claim three points in that game, plenty will be turning their attentions to the trip to Manchester City which looms large at the end of April.
