Ray Liotta has been the victim of Facebook hacking, with trolls taking over the late actor's social media account and sharing death hoaxes and links to fake news articles.

Representatives for the Goodfellas star, who died last May aged 67, say they have been working closely with Facebook to try and resolve the problem.

Ray's page was recently flooded with links to fake stories about celebrities including Bruce Willis, Ellen DeGeneres and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

His team thought they had resolved the issue last week, but hackers shortly returned to share graphic adult content on Ray's page.

The posts have since been removed. It is currently unknown who is behind the hacking.

Despite the breach in security, Ray's representatives told TMZ that Facebook has been "an amazing partner in resolving the issue".

Ray's fans have taken to Twitter to share their anger at whoever is behind the cyber attack.

"This is so f***ed up. Whoever is doing this, karma is coming for you big time," one person wrote.

Another exclaimed: "Not Ray!" while a third fan tweeted: "I wish the guy who took over Ray Liotta’s Facebook page either remove himself OR dissociate Ray Liotta out of it and rename it to something else.

"These posts do so much disservice to his memory. Because it is filled with so much junk and nonsense. Ray himself would dislike these!"

Ray passed away in his sleep back in May in the Dominican Republic, where he was filming for the upcoming movie, Dangerous Waters.

Following his death, his fiancée Jacy Nittolo penned a heartbreaking tribute.

"My life these past couple of years have been nothing but truly magical," she wrote.

"Ray and I share a deep love that I will cherish in my heart forever. We laughed daily and we were inseparable.

"The chemistry was wild in the best way. He was everything in the world to me and we couldn’t get enough of each other. The kind of real love that one dreams of.
