Gunther in "right spot" as Formula E star puts recent frustrations behind him
Max Gunther believes he's "definitely in the right spot" with Maserati MSG Racing as he looks to end a lengthy wait for a win when Formula E takes to the Brazilian streets for the first time.
The German is the youngest ever winner in the sport following his success in Chile back in 2020. His last victory came during his Nissan days when he took the chequered flag on the streets of New York in July 2021, but he's endured a frustrating time since then.
His switch to Maserati has bought with it new promise and the Monegasque outfit look to be heading in the right direction after a difficult start to the year. Gunther qualified second last time out in South Africa and was in the mix for a win when he retired in Cape Town.
Gunther's team have been title challengers in recent seasons before a summer of change and he is convinced that he's in the right spot to eventually realise his ambition as the sport's champion.
The German showed plenty of pace last time out in South AfricaHe told Mirror Sport : "For me the future is to fight and win this championship. It is obviously the natural goal after winning races, but I'm very aware that everything needs to fit. You need the right package and then I need to deliver the results, so it is not something you can plan.

"I'd definitely say I feel in the right spot, I'm very happy with where I am - I see great potential in this project. We just need to stay calm after the first few races and anything in possible in the future."
Gunther has long been the sport's youngest ever winner, tasting victory when he was just 22. Throughout sport, success coming so young doesn't guarantee future success. A winless run that spans just shy of two years has not been ideal for the German, but he doesn't think the results have necessarily reflected his own development.
He admitted: "I would say the last one-and-a-half years have not been that easy. Last year with the team I was with the package wasn't competitive so it was tough. It has been quite a while since I've been on the podium so it feels like a long time. On the other hand though I'm happy with my personal development - as a sportsman and as a racing driver.
"This is my goal - to always become a better version. Even though it hasn't always been visible in the last 18 months I really feel like a much stronger driver and personality than when I won my last Formula E race. I think it is all about being patient, believing in my way and working with the team as the momentum shows that we're going in the right direction."
