Casualty will see a string of new members of staff walk through the doors of Holby City's emergency department from the start of April.

It comes after several members of staff walked out including Marty Kirby and fellow nurse David Hide who struggled to keep up with the demands from Jacob and the new clinical lead, Max Crisite.

Last week, viewers bid an emotional farewell to nurse Robyn Miller who died after sustaining injuries from a car crash and waiting for an ambulance after Masters refused to release any paramedics to deal with any new incidents.

But Robyn's death saw the return of Holby City favourite, Sacha Levy ventured to the ED from Kellar ward, upstairs in the hospital to try and save the mother-of-one who bled to death.

Now, bosses are introducing several new faces with a very familiar person moving downstairs having previously served as a senior staff nurse in AAU.

Jaye Jacobs, known to many for playing Donna Jackson will be seen in the emergency department, just over a year after her last appearance on Holby City after bosses axed the hit medical drama.

Addressing joining the show, Jaye exclaimed: "I am thrilled to be joining such a legendary show."

The 40-year-old will be joined by Barney Walsh, Anna Chell, Sarah Seggari and Eddie-Joe Robinson who are left picking up the pieces of the recent fallout in the fictional Wyervn hospital.

Barney will be taking on the role of Cameron, an accident-prone nurse who lacks self-confidence and has bitten off more than he can chew after releasing he's a fish out of the water at the hectic hospital.

Bradley Walsh's son said: "It's been an incredible experience to join the cast of Casualty, I can't wait for the viewers to meet nurse Cam as he arrives at Holby and very quickly realises he might have bitten off more than he can chew!"

Elsewhere, Anna who has previously starred in The Bay will attempt to keep her personal life separate from her working lifestyle but while she remains outgoing, a figure from her past will crop up and make things difficult for her.

It seems as though Anna's character Jodie will fit in well as she admits she is "always" up for a night out before adding: "Jodie is hard-faced, strong & often lets her brain fall out of her mouth, but despite all this, she is great at her job and has quite a shock on her first shift!"

Making show history, Sarah Seggari will become the first nurse to wear a hijab as she takes on the role of Rida who ultimately becomes the mum of the new recruits.

Sarah explained: "It is an honour to play the first hijab-wearing Muslim nurse on Casualty. She has no problem putting people in their place even if it might come across a bit abrasive but will always stay loyal to her friends."

Although she hinted that things may not always be smooth sailing for Rida who goes out of her way to care for people, "even it it is sometimes isn't to protocol".

But while Eddie-Joe's character, Ryan, is known as Mr Popular, the cocky nurse is soon dealt with a major blow when he realises how busy the department is.

"From Ryan, you can expect a lot fun and banter with his fellow nurses, which he sometimes takes a bit too far… He's self-assured to the point of cocky, and when this combines with his ambitious nature it can definitely place him in hot water," said Eddie-Joe.

Casualty returns to BBC One on Saturday.
