Dave Franco admits dodging 'illegal' job before being 'forced into acting class'

Dave Franco says he had "no intention" on becoming a household Hollywood name and was actually "forced into acting class" as a youngster.

The Interview and Nerve star, 37, confessed that he was a "really shy kid" when he was growing up in Los Angeles ahead of his break into the film industry.

He made his acting debut on The CW drama TV series 7th Heaven in 2006 before he appeared in shows such as Do Not Disturb and Young Justice.

His Hollywood breakthrough was in Superbad in 2008 – birthing a glistening career in acting, something the star never actually wanted.

Speaking on CBS Mornings, he said: "I had no intentions of doing this, I was a really shy kid growing up and I came to LA to go to school and I kind of got forced into an acting class.

"I remember auditioning in the class on the first day and the first people on stage were screaming and crying and hitting each other and I was like 'no this is not for me'."

Dave said he "stuck it out" as he had "always loved movies" and hoped the acting class would be a path into filmmaking – something he's now embracing.

Now behind the camera, he has just directed his second movie – this time alongside wife Alison Brie for Amazon Prime rom-com Somebody I Used to Know.

He co-wrote the script for the flick, released on Friday, which stars Jay Ellis and Kiersey Clemons.

It follows Ally, played by Alison, a workaholic who spends time with her ex-boyfriend Sean, played by Jay, when she returns to her hometown.

Dave was on CBS Mornings promoting the show when he opened up about his first "illegal" job before he made it in the entertainment industry.

"I was 14-years-old and my first job was working in a video store," he explained.

"It was actually illegal for me to be working at that age so they basically paid me by allowing me to take home as many movies as a I wanted, and that was like my film school."

Speaking of the movie, specifically directing a film which includes his own wife getting intimate with other men, Dave added: "It's very funny.

"I realised on both of the movies I've directed I have paired my wife romantically opposite these very handsome charismatic men.

"But you know what, we've been doing this long enough.

"It's not like I'm excited about the days that my wife is being intimate with another man, but at the same time it's part of the job and we're all professionals."
