A professional bra fitter has revealed the three worst ways for you to be putting on a bra and admits that she used to do one of them which she now considers the worst of all. Kimmay Caldwell is a professional bra fitter and undergarment educator who regularly posts about this on her blog and to her TikTok page.

The expert, who has worked in some luxury lingerie and department stores including Sakes Fifth Avenue and La Perla explains that how you put your bra on can have a huge impact on how your bra supports you in the long run.

The first of these more damaging methods is what Kimmay describes as the over-the-head style. It's bad news if you put your bra on just like you would a t-shirt, as it can ruin your lingerie.

On this method, Kimmay explained on TikTok: "If your bra has a back clap it's not designed to be able to fit over your shoulders and then to your upper bust. It is just going to stretch it out."

In a similar vein to the first method, Kimmay has also witnessed people stepping into their bras which can also damage it in the long run.

Kimmay said: "Once again if your bra has a back clasp it shouldn't be able to fit over your hips and then fit underneath your bust. It's just going to stretch out over time and won't actually give you the support that it's supposed to."

The bra expert reveals that her third bugbear is the worst of all, admits that she actually used to do this as herself as her mum taught her it.

She calls this the crush, spin and flip method and says it is done through pushing the cups against your body, spinning it around which stretches out the band then flipping it up.

This technique, according to Kimmay, can be one of the worst ways to put on a bra as it is stretching out the bra and therefore giving it less chance of lasting.

Instead, Kimmay says that you should put your arms through the straps and pull it down first then clip it up at the back behind you.

This way none of the material is getting stretched out and the bra should last for longer.

She continued: "Putting your bra on this way will help your bra last longer because you aren't stretching out the band, denting the cups or ruining the underwire."
