Delta Goodrem has said she would jump at the chance to play the late actress Olivia Newton-John for a second time to pay tribute to her and her career.

The 38-year-old Australian singer and actress previously channeled Olivia in a 2018 TV miniseries called Hopelessly Devoted To You.

But since the passing of the Grease icon - who sadly passed away last year at the age of 73 following a long cancer battle - Delta thinks there should be another biopic about her fellow Aussie star.

The former Neighbours actress performed at a memorial that was held in Melbourne in tribute to Olivia and her life.

Delta told The Sun on Sunday that if there is to be a new biopic about Olivia then she would love to be somehow involved.

She said: “Any talk of another biopic is incredible, no matter where it leads.

“I am either there as an artist or a supporter, just loving that every-body would continue to share her story and her legacy.”

A string of high profile stars flew to Melbourne in February to attend a state memorial dedicated to Olivia.

Thousands gathered at Hamer Hall with video messages from global stars including Dolly, Mariah, Elton John, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Pink and Bee Gees star Barry Gibb, being played.

Dolly, 77, opened the tributes, with the American country superstar sharing “the world lost one of its greatest talents when Olivia left us”.

She added: “I know it's especially painful for all the folks there in Australia since she is one of your own. As a country you should be very proud and know that the whole world mourns with you."

And Sir Elton, 75, described Olivia as “someone who I always looked forward to seeing”.

He added: “She was such a wonderful force of nature but she was funny, she was kind, she was warm and she was talented and every time we got together we laughed and laughed and laughed.

"Throughout her career I have watched her grow and grow and grow to be the artist she became.”

Members of Newton-John’s family also gave touching tributes, with her husband, John Easterling, saying she was a “healer”.

“You have to understand, I wasn’t an Olivia fan, I didn’t know any Olivia music, I’d never even seen Grease,” he said to laughs from the audience.

And last weekend, Olivia’s life and career was celebrated at The Oscars as John Travolta introduced an I’m memoriam segment.

The American star said: "In this industry, we have the rare luxury of doing what we want for a living and sometimes we get to do it with people that we come to love.

“Since tonight is a celebration of the work and accomplishments of our community this past year, it is only fitting that we celebrate those we lost, who dedicated their lives to their craft both in front of and behind the camera."

"Through their immeasurable contributions each of them left an individual mark that shared and informed us," he continued as he visibly held back tears.
