A patient has demanded nearly £60,000 in compensation after his crooked penis ended up 2.36 inches shorter after corrective surgery.

The man is claiming £59,714 in compensation from the Murcian Health Service (Servicio Murciano de Salud; SMS) in southern Spain after the operation to correct his curved penis resulted in it being shortened by six centimetres (2.36 inches), according to local media.

The man also claimed that he is now unable to maintain an erection and have sexual intercourse, saying that even getting an erection is now painful.

In his lawsuit, the man, who has not been named, reportedly claimed that he is a victim of negligent care received at the Cartagena hospital because no one warned him of the risks involved in the operation.

He also said that he went to a different hospital, the La Fe hospital in Valencia, where medics told him that the situation, which he called "a real ordeal" is irreversible.

But the Legal Council of the Region of Murcia (CJRM) has reportedly rejected his claim, saying that doctors at the Cartagena hospital had told the patient about the possibility that surgery could result in him having a shorter penis.

It is currently unclear if the man plans to appeal the CJRM's decision and take his case to a higher court.

Local media have quoted Dr Manuel Viso as saying that during curvature correction operations, it is normal "that it is reduced by between one and three centimetres" (0.39 and 1.18 inches).

Penile curvature or Peyronie's disease is an abnormal curvature of the penis, a condition that results from fibrous scar tissue that forms on the penis and causes curved and painful erections.

This can prevent men from having sex or make it difficult to get and maintain an erection.

Earlier this month, a bungling urologist was put under investigation after amputating a patient's penis because of a non-existent tumour.

The 30-year-old surgeon is accused of causing serious injury to the unnamed patient from the municipality of Arezzo in Italy's Tuscany region.

He performed the operation at San Donato Hospital in Arezzo on November 13, 2018.

This was after the unnamed patient was incorrectly diagnosed, who is believed to be in his late sixties.

The procedure was carried out without a hitch, but during analysis of the amputated member, it quickly transpired that there was no tumour.

The devastated patient is now seeking compensation from the medic over the mutilation. The case has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for March 9 in Arezzo.
