Peter Kay stopped a show in Newcastle on Thursday night after an audience member became unwell.

The comic is currently on his sold-out comeback tour and is performing across some of the biggest arenas in the country.

But his show at the Newcastle Utilita Arena was quickly brought to a halt after a fan sitting on the front row of the auditorium was became unwell and needed urgent medical attention.

Peter, 49, is believed to have instantly rushed off the stage in front of his 11,000 fans in order to try and help the audience member before a wheelchair was later brought out.

Speaking to The Sun, an audience member said: "Peter asked if they were being serious, then he asked for the big lights to go on and stewards ran over to see what was going on.

"He then went off stage for around 10/15 mins and one person was seen getting wheelchaired out."

Peter is believed to have returned to the stage after two more members of the audience took ill before saying "three went down then," and adding he "hoped they were ok."

Peter's tour which has seen him return to the stage for the first time in several years is set to continue through til August 2023 at Sheffield's Utilita Arena.

Elsewhere, he has decided to release a book later this year, describing it as a "massive pleasure" to reflect on his journey from being obsessed with TV to then being a star of the small screen.

His memoir will mark Kay's long-awaited return to the page following the record-breaking release of his autobiography The Sound Of Laughter in 2006, Saturday Night Peter in 2009 and The Book That's More Than Just A Book in 2011.

The northerner is donating £14,000 to a children's charity – totalling £1 from every ticket sold for his first gig at London's O2 arena.

Donated funds will go to a Secret Santa fund which touched the comedian's heart.

Sharing the news, last year, Peter said: "I was coming down on the way here and I thought about what we should do because it's Christmas.

"I think Christmas is about doing good things for other people so we’re gonna take a pound off each of you.

"I'm going to put it in a children's charity and I was looking at my phone on the way down and I found one called Action for Children."
