King Charles reflects on 'profound loss' of Queen in emotional speech

King Charles spoke of the "profound loss" of his mother the Queen as he made a speech during a ceremony with a group dating back more than 300 years.

The monarch received the historic group known as the Privileged Bodies at Buckingham Palace this afternoon.

The body comprises of 27 organisations which historically have been allowed to address the monarch in person.

Made up of religious bodies, the arts and representatives from cities and regions, the group only meets during significant milestones in the life of a monarch.

Speaking to the group today, the King said: “Much has changed since the Privileged Bodies and Corporations of the United Kingdom last gathered over a decade ago to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.

“For my family, our nation and the Commonwealth, the death of my dear mother and our late Queen, was a profound loss."

"During her life, she remained a constant source of inspiration for us all, and I know what great support she drew from your loyalty and devotion.”

Afterwards, the Royal Family's Twitter account posted: “Today, representatives from 27 extraordinary organisations which have helped shape the UK’s diverse society gathered at Buckingham Palace to meet The King.

“Together, they are known as The Privileged Bodies.”

“Ranging from universities and religious organisations to arts and science institutions, they are given the opportunity to present ‘Loyal Addresses’ to the Monarch.”

The king’s appearance was the first public occasion since it was confirmed Prince Harry and Meghan's children will be known as Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Buckingham Palace has since confirmed the change, which also applies to Archie, and is in line with royal protocol following the Queen's death and taking the throne.

Meanwhile, earlier today was slightly taken aback when she was handed a paper Burger King crown during a walkabout in Colchester, Essex.

Camilla, who will be crowned alongside husband during his on May 6, was greeting royal fans on Monday, May 7, when well-wishers started handing her gifts and flowers.

In a video from the royal visit that has since gone , a cheeky teenager can be seen handing Camilla a Crown.

The royal can be seen stopping in front of the teen with her pal when she is presented with a cardboard green crown.
