Gary Lineker slams 'ridiculously out of proportion' reaction to Nazi comments
Gary Lineker has taken to social media to slam his recent comments being blown "out of proportion".
The football commentator compared the proposed government policy for immigration to Germany in the 1930s.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Lineker, 62, shared his views after Suella Braverman announced the new plans to stop migrants crossing the English Channel on boats and also claimed the UK is "overwhelmed".
Gary initially re-shared the video alongside the comment: "Good heavens, this is beyond awful."
He later commented: "There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries.

"This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the '30s."

In view of his 8.7 million followers, he said: "Well, it's been an interesting couple of days. Happy that this ridiculously out-of-proportion story seems to be abating and very much looking forward to presenting @BBCMOTD on Saturday.
"Thanks again for all your incredible support. It's been overwhelming."
Gary has also hit out at Penny Mordaunt after the Commons Leader accused the Labour party of borrowing his "playbook" and being the "party of goal hangers".

He responded: "Thank you for mentioning me in your clumsy analogy. I'm just happy to have been better in the 6-yard box than you are at the dispatch box. Best wishes."
His initial tweet received a mixed response with Downing Street later describing the comments as "not acceptable" and "disappointing" – with some urging the presenter to be axed from the BBC for appearing to break the broadcaster's guidelines on impartiality.
Meanwhile, others praised the tweet and it has received more than 10,000 retweets and 58,000 likes on the platform.

A source told The Sun: "We have spoken to Gary and he won't face any disciplinary action.
"From our perspective, the situation has been resolved now and we want him to get back to what he's best at, which is being a brilliant sports presenter."
A BBC source had previously told the Daily Mail that the Match of the Day host had 'crossed a line' with his comparison, a spokesperson for the broadcaster made it clear that he'll be "reminded of his responsibilities on social media," per Sky News.
