Make-up pro shares 'mind-blowing' uses for different shaped mascara wands
If you're ever wandered down a make-up aisle and wondered why there's so many different mascaras for sale, then you're in luck. An expert has revealed why the popular product comes in so many shapes and sizes - and it turns out the wand is not just for looks. In fact, different applicators have different uses.
Thankfully, the pro broke down a range of the common styles and what they are used for, so you can shop with confidence, knowing what you are buying. If you fancy lengthened lashes, darker lashes, or curled lashes, there's plenty of options; you just need to know which brushes to look out for.

Posting on TikTok as @thelipsticklesbians the pair created a series of viral videos sharing their knowledge about mascara. In the first clip, which has over 265,000 likes, Dr Christina asks her wife to talk viewers through a few options.
"There are so many it seems overwhelming," she begins.

Alexis replies: "There are. When you go to a manufacturer you are literally presented with this giant book of applicators. So you're trained to understand what each of them do." She then begins by picking up a mascara with a double-curved wand, meaning the middle of the brush is shorter than the outer edge.
"If you think about your lash base, your longest lashes sit in the centre, so this curvature is arguably going to be at the middle, that's why this is the thinnest and there are juicier edges. They want the juicy edges to hit the corner of your eyes to make these short lashes longer," the expert explains.
She adds: "So it is this theory of a single coating wand. It works." However, she claims if your eyes are a smaller shape than that of the wand you are buying 'it is not going to really help you', but the main thing is finding one that suits your personal preference.
Moving on to discuss a curved wire brush in the next video, Alexis continues: "So this wire brush is curved to help curl the lashes." She adds: "If you have curly hair and you want to accentuate those curls, go for a curved brush because it is already going in the shape of your lash."
If you don't fancy either of those mascares, there's always CoverGirl's lash blast.
"This is a dupe for the Chanel le volume," Alexis says before explaining the benefits of this mascara. "This brush really lets you aggressively get into every crevice of the lash to really build."
In the final video of the series, the expert talks viewers through another curved brush, but this time it is one with a 'comb built in'.
"That comb that is built in on the side lets you play with both sides of this. So there's bulk on each side, and what's going to end up happening is say you do a big deposit of bulk, you can flip your brush over and comb it through because there are two different brushes."
