People are just realising they have been pronouncing Shein wrong for years
Love it or hate it, there's no escaping Shein's popularity. Ever since its launch back in 2008, the fast-fashion retailer has enjoyed a meteoric rise. Last year, it was also named 2022's most popular fashion brand by Money.co.uk.
But not all fashion fans know how to pronounce Shein, it turns out, and people have been shocked to learn they've been getting it wrong for so long.
One fashionista who knows a thing or two about her brands was criticised online when naming Shein in a TikTok video. But @katelynjensen19 got the last laugh after proving naysayers wrong - as she's right on the money with her pronunciation.
So if you've been calling the brand 'Shine' or 'Sheen' and correcting your friends who say otherwise, you might owe them an apology.
The name is pronounced 'SHE - in', as the fashion lover explained in a now-viral video. "I just went out and got my own proof," the TikTok user quipped. "So if anybody ever comes for me again for saying Shein, please maybe do some research first because I'm more of an MLA citation kind of girl with some proof."

She then displayed a Tweet exchange between the brand and a customer. As seen in the message she shared, someone went straight to the source to find out 'How do we pronounce Shein?' @SHEIN_Official replied: "Hi there! It's pronounced SHE- in."
Shein confirmed the pronunciation (@RuthC_Z / Twitter)Wowed by the news, the video was awarded over 50,000 likes and gained over 200,000 views.
One stunned commenter wrote: "EVERYONE TOLD ME THAT WAS WRONG." A second viewer said: "It bugged me so much when people said SHEEN Lol like NO it’s SHE-IIIIIN!!! Lol."
Someone revealed: "I say she-in and everyone's like 'iTs ShEeEEn' or 'it's shine' like NO." And a different person thought: "Every time I hear someone say 'sheen' I'm like who told you it was pronounced like that? And why...?"
