Shaughna Phillips has opened up about her experience of getting pregnant, admitting that she has been “questioning every decision” ahead of giving birth.

The former Love Island star, 28, revealed she was expecting in October 2022, after getting pregnant just two months after coming off the pill last summer.

In her column for OK! magazine, the 36-weeks pregnant star discussed the plans she has now started putting in place for the birth, including the pain relief she has opted for and where she plans to have her baby.

Shaughna said: “I met with my midwife to discuss my birthing plan and which type of painkillers I want to go for when I give birth to my baby. I was then asked if I had any questions, and I said: ‘Yes. I'm questioning all of my life decisions up until this point’."

On deciding what pain relief she wants for her birth, Shaughna admitted it was a “total out of body experience” and that she doesn’t know what her needs will be.

The reality star opted for gas and air, stating that she wanted to avoid “too many painkillers” and that she doesn’t want an epidural, unless she must have one.

However, she did admit that she’d heard people say childbirth is “as close to death as you can be”, saying: “The midwife wrote down 'gas and air', but then I suddenly had some sort of premonition like 'I'm really going to regret that'.”

The Love Island star also discussed her choices for where she would give birth, revealing she was leaning towards going for a birthing suite, on the advice of her mum.

She said: “I told the midwife that I wanted to be on the labour ward, but my mum told me that on the birthing wing, you get a hot tub in the suite, so I think I'm going to go for that”, stating that she feels having her mum with her will help her remain calm throughout the process.

Shaungna also expressed that she was feeling nervous to become a mum, confiding that she has been experiencing normal mum-to-be worries, such as whether she will be a natural mother or not, or whether having a baby will feel right.

She said: “I'm worrying about it a bit, but I have so much support from friends and family, so hopefully everything will be ok.”
