DIY SOS star Nick Knowles fires back as he's fat-shamed by 83-year-old mum
Nick Knowles has lashed out after a Twitter user made a comment about his weight gain in a brutal social media swipe.
The presenter who is currently starring in Into the Grand Canyon with Nick Knowles came under fire for his choice of wardrobe selection on the show.
During the Channel 5 show which aired over two nights, the 60-year-old explored the world-famous Grand Canyon and also offered an insight into the canyon in Arizona.
But while most people appeared to be overjoyed as they tuned in, one social media follower couldn't help but comment on Nick's clothing and also poked fun at the presenter.
One viewer penned: "Hi @MrNickKnowles I watched the 1st episode with My 83-year-old mother and she was wondering did you only have one shirt? And that there seemed to be more of you than what the shirt could cope with."
DIY SOS star Gabrielle Blackman's 'heart-wrenching grief' after tragic deathNick, however, wasn't going to let the comment slide as he responded in full view of his 174,500 Twitter followers, saying: "How lovely of you to take the time to tweet me that I'm currently overweight - you're right - I am a bit heavier than I should be.
"I chose not to change the shirt (I had two the same so they could be washed) because I wanted the scenery to be talked about - not what I'm wearing."
Fans instantly flooded to the comment section to support Nick, with one writing: "Nick you are a brilliant presenter and I love your new show It's a shame some people feel they have to criticise you You are a kind man who always cares and we all enjoy watching."
"For God's sake, here we go again… We shouldn't give two hoots what size you are or what you're wearing. You're one of the most genuine, supportive and decent personalities on tv and we thank you for all of your work, especially your help to those in need. End of," said a second.
While a third went on to write: "I never noticed. I enjoyed the program Nick, very good. What a place."
The outburst comes just days after Nick revealed he did "serious damage" to himself while filming the programme in America.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast, he told Sallu Nugent: "I fell in love with Death Valley in spite the fact I did myself some quite serious damage in terms of I worked out in the heat in Death Valley with someone who does that in the heat."
He later went on to clarify that he damaged himself after "digging up invasive trees and things".
