Fans of Beyond Paradise were left feeling emotional upon watching Ruth Madoc’s final on-screen appearance.

The late actress died on December 9 last year, aged 79, following a freak accident.

She was taken to hospital for an operation, but sadly passed away just days after the accident occurred.

The actress guest starred on Beyond Paradise, a Death in Paradise spin-off, as Rosie Colbert, with her final scenes aired posthumously.

Fans of the show took to social media to air their feelings about seeing the late actress star in her final role posthumously, as the scenes aired last night.

One twitter user typed: “The Late Great #RuthMadoc #BeyondParadise this episode is bloody fantastic #bbc1.”

Another chimed: “I'd forgotten she was going to be in it, very nice surprise for my Friday evening! #hidehi #ruthmadoc Fab actress. Loving the new series too!”.

A third added: “Dear Ruth Madoc looking fantastic on @BeyondPOfficial. Rest in peace wonderful lady and Hi De Hi!!!.”

The official Beyond Paradise account tweeted a still of the actress while in character, writing: “It was our absolute pleasure to have the late Ruth Madoc in this episode, in her final onscreen role. Sending lots of love to her family from all of us here.”

The tweet received an emotional response from other viewers, with one person replying: “National treasure, God rest her.”

A second added: “Wonderful Welsh actress. Sadly missed”, while a third wrote: “A great actress. Sincere condolences to her family.”

Ruth was known for her role as Gladys Pugh in sitcom Hi-de-Hi! between 1980 and 1988.

Her death came as a shock to her fans after she died after suffering a fall.

A statement was issued about her accident to her Instagram page, that read: "Following an accident earlier this week, and after medical assessment, regretfully Ruth Madoc is no longer able to appear in this year's pantomime of Aladdin at the Princess Theatre in Torquay.

"Everyone at the theatre wishes Ruth a speedy recovery. Further announcements regarding casting will take place in due course."

Ruth added: "Hiya everyone please don’t worry ! I’m well and I’ll soon be back to normal, but unfortunately @princesstheatretorquay won’t get to have The Empress Gladys in the Panto this Christmas."

However, only days later, her agent confirmed that she had died in hospital after undergoing surgery.

The statement read: "Ruth passed away on the afternoon of Friday December 9 while in hospital following surgery for a fall she had earlier in the week, which had led her to have to withdraw from panto in Torquay."
