Nestle discontinues popular coffee product and fans are 'devastated'

Nestle has discontinued its popular coffee product Coffee Mate Light in the UK with the food and drinks giant making the announcement last week.

The global company confirmed its move to scrap in a tweet to a fan of the coffee product.

Coffee Mate lovers shared how they couldn't find the product in stores and began to question what was happening.

One Twitter user messaged Nestle asking if there was any news on restocking the Coffee Mate Light brand yet as they were "beyond desperate".

Nestle responded by sharing the devastating news.

In its tweet, Nestle said: "we're very sorry to say we have made the decision to discontinue Coffee Mate Light.

"Coffee Mate Original is low fat and low sugar when prepared, and a mug of coffee made using Coffee Mate Original contains less than 40 calories per mug."

The move has left many shoppers disappointed with coffee lovers sharing their feelings on social media.

One user asked Nestle to "reconsider" their decision.

They said: "Devastated... I only use this product. please will you reconsider... thanks."

Nestle will continue to sell its Standard Coffee Mate going forward, however, some simply preferred the "light" version.

Another said: "The standard version tastes very different to the light version which I much prefer."

Coffee Mate is a coffee "creamer" and is often used as an alternative to milk.

All you need to do is stir the powder into your hot beverage and you're good to go with Nestle's Coffee Mate also offering flavours such as vanilla, chocolate and creme brulee.

Shoppers again took to social media as they were struggling to find the products in shops.

One coffee fan tweeted Nestle: "Can you tell me why I can’t seem to buy coffee mate anywhere in my area? Has it been banned?

"I can’t enjoy my morning coffee without it and it's annoying me"

Nestle later explained how the company was switching up the packaging of the product to make it more eco-friendly.

In a statement at the time, a Nestle spokesperson said: “We have taken the positive step to move our packaging to be fully recyclable but we’re currently encountering some production challenges.

"We are working very hard to resolve these issues as soon as possible. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."
