Roy Keane slammed Alphonse Areola and his defenders for their role in Manchester United's equaliser as the Red Devils came from behind to beat West Ham 3-1 in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.

Said Benrahma had given the Hammers the lead with a terrific long-range strike, before Man Utd equalised in the 77th minute through Nayef Aguerd's own-goal. However, David Moyes will be bitterly frustrated that a routine corner not dealt with by either Alphonse Areola or the Moroccan international before the ball found its way into the corner.

To make matters worse, the goal spurred the home side on to nick it at Old Trafford and Erik ten Hag's side found the all-important winner in injury-time through Alejandro Garnacho's terrific finish. Moments later, Fred added a third to seal the Red Devils' passage into the quarter-final of the competition against Fulham in mid-March.

However, Keane decided to point out Areola's role in United's leveller and admitted that the West Ham players were discussing what to do like "they are in Starbucks". The Irishman also added the Frenchman should have come out with violence to claim the ball.

In a scathing verdict, Keane told ITV : "The keeper has got to come out there - a goalkeeper coach I used to work with used to say, come out with violence. Then they have a little discussion afterwards like they are in Starbucks. Come and take people out - come with violence. That's your job!"

It was not the best performance from Man Utd, who had to grind out in the latter stages to progress into the next round. However, they managed to get the job done and Keane has praised Ten Hag for once again being effective for his changes and substitutions.

He added: "They have got lucky tonight. We said before tonight that he made a huge gamble with all the changes and it looked like it was going to backfire, but they started to do what they were good at, contributions from players off the bench. 3-1, comfortable in the end."

Meanwhile, Ten Hag also had his say on his side's display and claimed it wasn't an easy game after they won the Carabao Cup three days earlier. The Dutchman made several alterations to face the Hammers, having beaten Newcastle in the final at Wembley on Sunday.

He said: "It was not easy as we have seen. After Sunday, it is never easy after a cup celebration and of course you have to get back to business as usual. That was our task, we did it and found a way to win."

Ten Hag's side are back in action on Sunday when they face Liverpool in the Premier League as they look to keep the pace on Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the table.
