Manhunt for gunman on the loose as man dies 'after being shot at home'

Police have launched an urgent manhunt for a gunman who is on the loose after a dad died when he was shot at home.

Police officers scrambled to the property in the early hours of this morning, around 1.15am, and found a 37-year-old man seriously injured.

He was rushed to hospital but tragically died a short time later.

The “suspicious” death was the result of an alleged gunman who remains at large after fleeing the scene, police have said.

The victim, named locally as dad-of-three Neil Wilson, died after local people said they heard seven gunshots.

It is reported that the shooter took off on an electric scooter after the attack. Police have urged anyone with information to get in touch.

The attack took place in the early hours of this morning, with police called at 1.15am

Underworld sources told the Daily Record the shooter wound their way through a labyrinth of narrow pathways to escape on the scooter.

Chief Inspector Damian Kane, local area commander, said: “Obviously this man’s death is devastating for his family and very concerning for the wider community.

“Please be assured that we have additional high-visibility patrols in the area and should anyone wish to speak to officers and would encourage them to do so whilst respecting cordons that are in place."

“We appreciate that there may be raised tensions in the area, but again, my officers are there to reassure the community and can be approached by anyone with any concerns they may have following the incident.”

Amid the ongoing manhunt, police are going door-to-door in the town of Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland, where the shooting took place. The victim was found at a home in Nairn Road.

Police Scotland officers are gathering CCTV footage as experts from the major crime units have joined the investigation after the victim died at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Major Investigations Team Detective Superintendent Cameron Miller said: “Our investigation is still at an early stage. Today, and over the coming days, there will be significant police activity with both uniform and detective officers present within the local area as well as specialist forensic teams, carrying out inquiries into this death.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in Nairn Road or the immediate vicinity around 1.15am who may have seen anything suspicious or anyone who has any information relating to this incident. If anyone has dash-cam footage from the street or surrounding area during that time I would urge them to come forward."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are treating his death as suspicious and inquiries are continuing."
