Emily Atack breaks down as she shares 'embarrassment' at receiving vile messages

Emily Atack broke down in tears as she discussed the "embarrassment" she felt at receiving vile messages.

The Inbetweeners actress, comedienne and TV presenter fronted a new documentary tonight for BBC Two about the vile sexual messages and images she has received on social media. During her time filming the show, she decided to report one of the men to the police as they came over to discuss with her what had been said and what the next steps were.

She cried as she admitted she felt "embarrassed" by receiving the messages and also confessed she felt "angry" because she felt like she had allowed these kind of things to continue on.

In her documentary, she said: "It makes me feel sick. I feel nervous. I feel embarrassed, saying those things to you now. Sorry I don't wan to get upset but saying those words, I just feel really embarrassed, especially in front of another man."

The male police officer offered to step out of the room but Emily said it was ok. The female police officer reassured her and said there was nothing to feel embarrassed about and slammed the messages and pictures she received as completely uncalled for. "There's nothing you could do or say that would necessarily put these people off," the officer added.

"I just feel so angry because I feel like I've allowed it to continue," she said as she wiped away her tears.

Emily added: "It's just a bit out of control now. I wasn't expecting to get upset about it but it's just hearing those aggressive words. Now that I've blocked him, it proves that blocking doesn't stop me feeling like this."

During an appearance on This Morning today, Emily was tearful as they discussed the messages, with Phil saying that the person in question had been "sending the hideous stuff while his wife and children are asleep".

Emily added: "He says he tucks his children into bed and then he comes online to abuse me. Then he sometimes asks if I'll get involved with him and his wife. Or then he’ll want to do it behind his wife’s back while his children are asleep. He calls himself daddy Dave to me and constantly says the words daddy, daddy, which is a really psychologically horrible thing."

The actress and presenter also explained to her mum how "uncomfortable" it was for her to talk about it all, as her mum consoled her and reassured her it wasn't her fault. "I'm so sorry you've felt all your life that everything's been your fault," her mum told her.
