Half term getaways could be pulled off for just £34 a night thanks to new Travelodge sale.

The hotel chain has released more than 70,000 rooms for £34 or less across its 580 UK hotels ahead of February half term.

For a family of four sharing a room, that works out at just £8.50 per person.

The rooms are subject to availability - you can find out more and book at travelodge.co.uk. The brand's price finder tool can also be a handy way of finding the cheapest prices for your chosen dates.

But those aren't the only deals.

Over 200 of Travelodge's hotels feature an on-site restaurant called The Bar Café which offers a breakfast, dinner and bar menu service.

You can enjoy an unlimited hot buffet breakfast which starts from only £8.99 and for each paying adult two children under the age of 15 eat for free.

Meanwhile, the budget hotel brand has also compiled a list of ideas for how Brits can pinch the pennies and make their cash go further on holidays amid the cost of living squeeze - check them out below.

Take a multi-location staycation

Rather than staying in one location, why not book a trip with a few stops along the way? It's a great way to explore and get more bang for your buck.

For example, the Coastal Way in Wales runs the entire length of Cardigan Bay. It’s a 180 mile odyssey that threads between blue seas and big mountains, and you'll find Travelodge hotels at Llandudno, Caernarfon and Pembroke Dock if you're after budget stays.

It’s a great location for one of the best road trips in Wales. From Aberdaron to St Davids, the coast is dotted with harbour towns and resorts, fishing villages and secret coves.

Go to free attractions

There are some amazing free activities in every corner of the UK to keep your children occupied over the half-term, whether its museums, beaches or national parks.

You don’t need to break the bank in order to have fun-filled days.

In London, you can visit the British Museum, the Tate Gallery or the Natural History Museum free of charge.

Or why not watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace for some British pomp and ceremony?

In Edinburgh, you can visit The National Gallery, the Museum of Childhood and St Giles Cathedral or why not visit the rolling hills of Pentlands Regional Park which has the best views of the city and beyond.

Maximise your location

While the UK's public transport system may not be the reliable and extensive in the world, the country has one major advantage when it comes to going on staycation - everything is pretty close together.

That means you can always stay in one, cheaper town or village, and then travel to go sightseeing the next day.

For example, a stay at Middlesbrough Travelodge would see you in easy reach of the historical city of Durham where you can explore Durham Castle and the picturesque Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby with its blue flag beaches.

Or why not base yourself at Travelodge Guildford with excellent transport links into London and on the edge of the South Downs national park where you can enjoy the rolling hills, glorious heathland, river valleys and the iconic white cliffs of the Heritage Coast?
