Manchester United could have to pay up to £300m if they want to pursue a five-year deal for Harry Kane, according to reports.

The Tottenham forward has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford as they consider their options in the final third. Erik ten Hag is keen to add more firepower and Kane is a proven Premier League performer who has been prolific throughout his career.

United will have to pay big bucks if they want to bring in the England captain, however. Were Tottenham chief Daniel Levy to sell up he would be seeking a transfer fee of £120m for the 29-year-old, who was heavily linked with a switch to Manchester City 18 months ago, as per the Daily Star.

Kane was seeking wages of £375,000-a-week when City came calling, but he could now consider even more with a figure of £400,000-a-week touted. That is before a signing-on fee is introduced as well as any bonuses - which can often see a player double their basic wage if individual and team goals are achieved.

There had been reports of United introducing a wage cap that would mean no first-team player earned more than £200,000-a-week. They are wide of the mark however with the club knowing any policy would effectively end their hopes of signing Kane whilst Marcus Rashford is also in contract talks with the club.

Kane, who has spent his entire career in north London but remains trophyless, is set to inform Tottenham whether he wants to pursue other avenues or sit down to discuss a new deal. United have largely relied on Anthony Martial to lead their line when fit this term.

The Frenchman has dipped in and out of favour throughout his time in Manchester. He's currently the best option for Ten Hag, but the Dutchman has been urged by Ian Wright to offload Martial in a cash-plus-player deal if they want to sign Kane from Tottenham.

"If Man United came now, Harry Kane with a year left, let's say they put £60million on the table and we'll throw in someone - Martial, whatever - it's a very good deal," the Arsenal legend told his Wrighty's House podcast. "If Man United have got any serious thinking about what we need to do next, it's a No.9. It seems like a no-brainer that Harry Kane is the person. He takes them somewhere else."

United are also considering other options should they opt against pursuing Kane with Napoli's Victor Osimhen on their radar. The Nigerian has scored 14 times in 19 outings this season.
