Girl, 5, chokes to death on favourite snack driving home from swimming lesson
A little girl has died in tragic circumstances after choking on her favourite snack in her mum's car.
Imogen Lennon, five, was on her way home to Canowindra, in Central West New South Wales, Australia when she suddenly started choking.
Sitting in the back seat of her mum Samanthas' car, Imogen began struggling after she was given a deli frankfurt to eat on January 16.
Samantha rang for an ambulance but was told it was too far away to make it in time. She drove her daughter to the hospital herself with the help of a passerby.
Despite the efforts, little Imogen sadly passed away in hospital.
Mum's touching gesture to young son who died leaves Morrisons shopper in tearsIn a GoFundMe family friend Tamara Harrison gushed that Imogen's death was a "tragic loss" and the little girl was "bright, determined, loving and sassy."
Tamara explained: "Imogen's Mum Sam picked Imogen up from swimming lessons on the afternoon of the 16th.
"On the drive home, Imogen was happily eating a deli Frankfurt -a favourite after swimming - and chatting away to her mum from the back seat, when she suddenly started choking.
"Despite Sam's heroic efforts, ringing an ambulance, the help of a passerby and eventually driving Imogen to the hospital herself - the ambulance was too far away to make it in time - Beautiful Imogen passed away later at the hospital."
Tamara added Imogen's family including Samantha and her husband Bill are "shattered" by the news.
She added: "To make sense of such a tragic loss in such a way is inconceivable, there are no words that could accurately describe how shattered Imogen's family are. It is Impossible to Imagine life without Imogen."
Tamara hopes to remove the "burden" of paying for Imogen's funeral and kind Aussies have been forthcoming in their donations so far.
"Anyone that knows this couple knows that they are true Aussie battlers, always helping others," Tamara added. "They would give the shirts off their backs, without a second thought should someone be in need."
So far, generous members of the Australian public have put up $22,897 (£13,019) for funeral costs with a total goal of $25,000 (£14,215).
The top donation from one donor has come in at a welcome $1,000 (£568).
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'Imogen leaves behind her mum and dad along with two older brothers Hayden and Bailey and her sister Tamzin, as well as a large extended family.
Friends have also paid tribute to the "bright and bubbly" little girl.
One said: "A brief meeting of you, little Imogen... you have left your footprint on my heart.
Another added: "We are so sorry, Samantha and Bill. We only met Immy once but she was so bright, bubbly and beautiful we'll remember her always that way."
Her funeral is set for Saturday and mourners have been asked to wear bright colours.
