A beer fan who won a $1million bar tab in a BrewDog bar had to be shown the door after splurging on one too many rounds.

Punter Jeffrey Appleby landed the huge cheque at the brewery's grand opening of its new Sin City rooftop bar in Las Vegas.

The £800,000 prize - valid for 20 years - can be spent on beer, food and even the brewery's hotels.

But the 36-year-old winner splashed £27,000 ($33,400) of the mega cheque on rounds for everyone in the Vegas bar, and was soon sent on his merry way himself.

BrewDog bosses revealed Jeffrey spent enough to collect enough cans of booze to fill a wheelbarrow, knocking back plenty of it for himself.

The exciting windfall ended with a sore head after he had to be escorted from the premises appearing worse for wear as last month's event came to a head, with the Aberdeenshire-based group later saying he was "encouraged to have an early night".

“I was told the guy had been drinking before he even turned up," an insider told The Sun.

“Everyone was chanting his name and it looked like he was having a blast.

“He was definitely making the most of his big moment.

“Who wouldn’t? He’s become a legend now.”

Pictures show Jeffrey, an Air Force veteran, stood atop the bar being handed a cheque by BrewDog co-founder James Watt.

The Vegas grand opening was attended by hundreds, with their wristbands entered into a draw for one to be chosen as the tab's lucky winner.

Around a thousand people queued to get into the glitzy event, which saw live music from the likes of We Are Scientists while American punters were treated to Scottish delicacy deep-fried Mars bars.

A BrewDog spokesman said: “We were delighted with our grand opening party, with over 1,000 guests enjoying the evening.

“Our $1million bar tab winner delighted the crowd by buying the bar a few rounds of beer, and after this he was encouraged to have an early night.

“He left with his two friends and was accompanied by two senior managers.

“We look forward to seeing him back in one of our bars in the near future to use the remainder of his prize.

“It is valid over a 20-year period, therefore encouraging sensible consumption.”

BrewDog formed in 2007 by Watt and Matt Dickie after the two began brewing craft ale and selling it from a van.

The company is currently one of the UK's biggest breweries with venues across the country, Europe and the US.
