Bosnia border police stop 96 migrants in two smuggling operations
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s border police prevented 96 people from illegally crossing the country’s border, the agency said in a statement Thursday.
The smuggling attempts were thwarted in two separate operations Wednesday in the town of Bistrica. During the afternoon, officers intercepted 63 people—40 from Pakistan and 23 from Bangladesh. Acting on orders from the state prosecutor’s office, investigators seized two boats and identified two suspected smugglers.
Later that evening, authorities intercepted another 33 people in the same town, including 18 from Afghanistan, 13 from Bangladesh and two from Pakistan. Police said the country’s Service for Foreigners’ Affairs was notified and the investigation remains ongoing.
