Four Ugandan police officers arrested in $4m fake gold scam targeting Dubai businessman
Ugandan police have arrested 16 people, including four police officers, for their alleged involvement in a fake gold scam that defrauded a Dubai businessman of $4 million, the Uganda Police Force stated.
The suspects operated under the company name Real Sunnex Ltd and allegedly obtained the $4 million from an unnamed Dubai businessman through a fake gold transaction. According to investigators, the group was also preparing to obtain another $4 million from the businessman using a similar scheme. Investigators also said the four officers had abandoned their duties to guard the suspected fraudsters at an illegal gold refinery.
The investigation followed a complaint filed by the businessman in July 2025, in which he named Asiimwe Moses as one of the alleged fraudsters and identified the company as Real Sunnex Ltd. During the operation, police recovered fake gold, documents and eight vehicles.
