Peter Wright allegedly had a drink launched towards him on stage during his brilliant run at the Nordic Masters.

Wright was back to his best as he crushed Gerwyn Price 11-5 to win his first televised title in over a year in Copenhagen.

The two-time world champion perhaps had the most difficult possible route to glory as he claimed the £20,000 first prize and his fourth World Series of Darts crown.

'Snakebite' downed Dutch icon Michael van Gerwen and new world no.1 Michael Smith before cruising to a comfortable victory over fiery Welshman Price in Sunday's showpiece final.

But the ugly incident came after an epic 10-9 quarter-final victory over Van Gerwen as one punter appeared to throw a drink in the Scotsman's direction.

Pro darts player Matthew Edgar spotted the incident, posting a photo which shows Wright pointing at a drink that one fan thought was a good idea to throw towards the oche.

"Looks like someone has thrown their drink at Peter Wright after he beat MVG," Edgar said. "I mean why wait all year for the World Series to come to you, and then treat the players like that?"

Wright was hardly deterred by the events, however, and is hitting top form ahead of the start of the new Premier League season next month.

Before that, Wright will compete at this weekend's Cazoo Masters in Milton Keynes, and the flying 52-year-old was delighted to get his hands on silverware ahead of a key period in the campaign.

"It's lovely when darts go like that - I just felt unbeatable," he said. "It doesn't matter who was in front of me. I feel really good. The way I felt, no-one was going to touch me in the final - the darts were flowing.

"Gezzy's [Gerwyn Price] a fantastic player, he was in the final in Bahrain last week and he's beaten me the last four times I played him, so I've got one back! To beat the best players in the world is brilliant.

"To be invited to play on the World Series, I'm grateful, and the amazing crowds make the difference. Last year was a bit tough so let's get on it and start winning! This will give me confidence for the Masters next week."
