Controversial ex-kickboxer Andrew Tate has complained his prison cell is plagued with cockroaches, lice and bed bugs.

Tate, 36, was arrested last month along with his brother Tristan and two unnamed people in connection with an investigation into alleged human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group. They were detained for 30 days and were due for release at the end of January, but a Romanian court ruled their detention could be extended to February 27.

In his first email sent out to fans since his imprisonment, Tate wrote about the conditions of his cell which "has no light". The message read: "They are trying to break me. Thrown inside a cell without light. Cockroaches, lice, and bed bugs are my only friends at night. When the guards bring me to and from the courtroom, I stay absolutely respectful. They try to pour hatred into my heart.”

Tate makes several references to the prison guards in his message, claiming they know he is "innocent”. The former four-time kickboxing world champion is now able to receive messages whilst in prison, posting an email address on Twitter for his followers to send him mail.

Tate and his brother, who have denied the allegations against them, rose to fame on social media last year with videos of them on TikTok receiving billions of views. The controversial kickboxer, who was nicknamed 'Cobra' during his career, had most of his social media accounts but has since been reinstated on Twitter following Elon Musk's takeover of the platform.

Romanian prosecutors have said that the four suspects, which includes Andrew and Tristan, "appear to have created an organised crime group with the purpose of recruiting, housing and exploiting women by forcing them to create pornographic content. They would have gained important sums of money."

Tate has remained active on Twitter since being imprisoned, although it's unclear if the messages are being posted by him or someone of his behalf. A recent tweet from his account read: "In the darkened silence of solitary confinement there is almost no noise. Pray for me, I can hear you" with another reading: "Everything bad happens at once. That's how life works. Be prepared. Enjoy the storm. Sing in the rain. Look forward to the rainbow."

The 36-year-old has been granted visitation after being in prison for over three weeks, with popular Twitch streamer Adin Ross claiming he will be travelling to Romania to visit Tate. "I've just filled in my visitation form," a tweet from Tate's account read. "Besides my lawyer, I'm allowed five visitors, four are family members and the fifth is Adin Ross."
