Aaron Carter fans outraged as Grammy Awards snub star from memorial segment
Aaron Carter's fans and family members were shocked to see the singer missing from this year's Grammy Awards In Memoriam section.
The star was confirmed to have died in November last year at the age of 34 after his body was found in his bathtub.
Many expected the younger brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter to get a mention during the 65th annual edition of the Grammys, but it never came.
While a number of musicians were given a tribute, including Loretta Lynn, David Crosby, Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie, Bobby Rydell, Naomi Judd, Lisa Marie Presley, Olivia Newton John and Jeff Beck, Aaron's named never appeared.
The apparent shun caused outrage with fans of the performer, who took to Twitter to let their feelings known.
Inside the $60K Grammys 2023 guest gift bags - including lipo vouchersOne user shared a black-and-white image of the star alongside the words: "Since the Grammys chose not include Aaron Carter’s picture while tributing the passed away singers. I’ll just post my own mini tribute because that’s so sad. Rest In Peace Aaron Carter #Grammys2023".
Another penned: "Really @RecordingAcad??? HOW do you leave @aaroncarter out of the in memoriam??? He sold millions of albums, his life was music. I am stunned and saddened you didn’t include him. #GRAMMYs #Aaroncarter."
And a third said: "Since @RecordingAcad didn’t, i will: in memoriam of aaron carter - you deserved more. more recognition, love & time. thank you for the music that got me through my childhood, shaped me as a person & why i wanted to work in music. i forever love you. #aaroncarter #GRAMMYs".
Despite him not receiving a TV tribute the late singer is reported to have been mentioned in the memorial section in the Grammys programme, People reports.
The mum of Aaron's son, Prince, also took aim at the ceremony for their oversight.
Melanie Martin told TMZ she was baffled at their decision not to include him in the segment.
She told the publication all Aaron ever wanted was for his music to be recognised and said the apparent mistake felt like a slap in the face to his legacy and his son.
She told the outlet the show should try to find a way to make it up to Aaron, even if it includes giving him a mention at next year's awards.
And some fans on social media even spotted another missed mention with Taylor Hawkins said to have been left off the final list.
