British Airways crew member arrested on suspicion of raping stewardess in Singapore
A British Airways crew member has been arrested and accused of raping a stewardess in Singapore.
The man is accused of attacking the woman after a night out during a layover.
Two other female staff members have been flown home following the incident, reports The Sun.
A source said: ‘Everyone is numb. The rape accused steward has flown with BA for years.
‘The case is under the jurisdiction of Singapore authorities and proving a major headache for aviation chiefs.’
It is understood BA managers have also travelled to Singapore to deal with the fallout following the arrest.
British Airways said in a statement: ‘This is a matter for the police and it would be inappropriate to comment further.’
Rape in Singapore towards a victim over the age of 14 can carry a sentence of up to 20 years behind bars.
They can also receive a fine and a caning.
This news comes after a BA pilot was sacked in 2023 after bragging to colleagues about snorting cocaine off a topless woman just hours before he was supposed to be flying back to the UK.
At the time, a co-worker raised the alarm on Mike Beaton just hours before he was due to co-pilot a flight from South Africa back to the UK after the night of debauchery.
In texts to the stewardess, Beaton, from Devon, claimed he was left ‘so f** I couldn’t even lift my head gone 2’ after his all-night partying.
Because of his behaviour, the airline was forced to delay the flight for 24 hours while it tried to find a suitable replacement for him.
It cost BA £100,000 to resolve it.
