Police investigate "serious assault" in Plymouth’s West Hoe, public urged to avoid area
Officers with Devon and Cornwall Police remain at the scene of a "serious assault" in the West Hoe area of Plymouth, and have advised people to stay away from the area
The chilling social media post of a paramedic detailed the grim nature of a "serious assault" in Plymouth, it was thought.
The woman, using the X username @ParamedicEm, posted on the app at around 11.45pm on Wednesday, stating: "Awful what’s going on in Plymouth. Thoughts with the victims and my colleagues who are having to deal with it all." She ended the post with a broken heart emoji and an emoji of an ambulance.
The mum referred to alarming scenes in West Hoe, Plymouth, where emergency services have descended on a residential road. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed a "serious assault" had happened late on Wednesday night, and eventually gave further detail in the early hours of Thursday.
But @ParamedicEm’s harrowing tweet had alluded to victims, rather than a sole casualty, and suggested pramedics have encountered grim scenes. She shared her empathy with her "colleagues who are having to deal with it all" as the situation unfolded. Since the tweet was sent however, Devon and Cornwall Police stated only one person was hurt.
Another tweet features of a video, which appears to capture several emergency service vehicles along the residential street in West Hoe, an area in the south of Plymouth.
Devon and Cornwall Police’s force incident manager said late on Wednesday: "We are dealing with a serious assault at the scene. Members of the public are being asked to stay away. Officers remain at the scene."
One horrified witness is understood to have said: "I’ve seen someone being given CPR. It feels like every police officer on duty tonight in Plymouth is here." Another local said on X he saw police descend on a block of flats.
A member of staff at a pub in the area described chaotic scenes. They said there’s a lot of police "just down the road" from the boozer, which remains open. South Western Ambulance Service’s "incident response unit" is also at the scene, it is thought.
West Hoe is a housing development in the south of Plymouth. It was built into the site of a quarry from which much limestone was taken for the city centre development. Since then, it has become a popular place to live and has attracted independent businesses, such as bars and restaurants.
