A child has been left in critical condition after a suspected hit and run crash in Bristol.

The child was seriously injured after the driver of a BMW crashed into them in the Lawrence Weston area of Bristol today.

Officers were alerted after reports of a BMW which had left the road before hitting a child in Long Cross near the junction with Kings Weston Road shortly before 2pm.

Now a hunt has been launched for the two people believed to have been in the car.

They reportedly ‘fled on foot’ after the crash and enquiries are ongoing to confirm their identities.

They are described as a man and a woman, both of whom are white.

The man had a short dark hair and he was dressed in a grey puffer jacket, light coloured trousers and white trainers.

The woman had blonde hair and was wearing a black puffer coat, blue jeans and light-coloured shoes, Avon and Somerset Police said.

Avon and Somerset Police said: ‘Officers attended alongside the ambulance and fire services and remain at the scene. The child was taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to be life-threatening.’

The age or gender of the child has not been revealed.

Kings Weston Road B4057 remains closed for traffic in both directions.
