Met Police issue Notting Hill Carnival update after seizing firearms

The Metropolitan Police said there had been a single report of a stabbing at the annual event, which resulted in a victim sustaining injuries not considered life threatening

The Metropolitan Police has issued another update in relation to criminal activity at Notting Hill Carnival.

At 7pm, the Met said there had been a single report of a stabbing which resulted in non-life threatening injuries. Officer interventions through the day included the use of Section 60 search powers, which has lead to a number of weapons being removed from the streets.

In addition to the stabbing, officers seized a car in Harrow that was thought to be making its way to Carnival. During a search of the vehicle, cops found a firearm and arrested two people. Another firearm was seized during a search at one of the entry points to the festival.

The Met said that another successful stop saw cops arrest a man who was wanted for an attempted murder in Hackney back in July. Throughout the course of the day, 41 weapons other than firearms were seized. As of 7pm, officers had made 145 arrests - which brings the total to 249 from both of the days.

A woman who is in a critical condition in hospital after she was stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival had attended the event with her child, the Metropolitan Police said.

The 32-year-old mum had been at the carnival on Sunday when she was attacked and rushed to hospital where she currently remains fighting for her life. She was one of three people knifed at the event in separate horrifying incidents, with two men aged 29 and 24 also attacked. The 29-year-old was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said they were awaiting updates on the 24-year-old’s condition.
