An 11-year-old girl has tragically died after falling from the seventh floor of a hotel she was staying at with her family while on holiday in the Spanish island of Majorca

An 11-year-old Irish girl has died after plunging 65ft from the seventh floor of a Majorcan hotel where she was staying with her family.

The youngster’s relatives were said to be sleeping when she went out on the terrace and fell to her death in circumstances police were today investigating. The tragedy occurred at around 6.30am this morning at Club Mac, an all-inclusive three-star resort that specialises in families in the resort of Puerto de Alcudia in the northeast of Majorca.

Paramedics and other emergency responders tried without success to revive the youngster, but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is expected to take place later today.

The family at the centre of the drama are believed to have been planning to return home later today.

Police sources confirmed the girl who died was Irish. She is understood to have fallen around 65ft and landed on the roof of a first-floor restaurant. A regional emergency coordination centre has offered the youngster’s family trauma counsellors.

One well-placed insider said: “The girl who died was one of three children. The family were due to return to Ireland today. The youngster’s parents were sleeping when she fell and had no idea what had happened until afterwards.” A receptionist at Club Mac said this morning the resort was not commenting.

It comes just weeks after another Irish national suddenly collapsed and died in the middle of the street in Majorca while enjoying a summer holiday with loved ones. Dad-of-four Michael Grant may have been attacked by a motorist who ran him over before he collapsed, close to the notorious Punta Ballena strip in Magaluf, on the morning of Tuesday, July 2.

Mr Grant, 43, was with his wife Leanne and at least two of their four children, along with other families from Ireland. After spending the afternoon drinking by his hotel pool and then going out to party, he reportedly taken a wrong turn and became separated from the group.

A security guard saw Mr Grant collapse in the road and called local police, who were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead shortly after. In an initial pre-autopsy examination, a duty coroner found the 45-year-old had leg injuries consistent with having been hit by a car, as well as bite marks on his arm and shoulder.

The physiotherapist, from Waterford, also had a deep wound with glass inside.
