Police in Kent are investigating after two elderly people were found dead at a property in Sandwich, a port town in Kent - officers have launched an investigation into the tragedy

Two pensioners in their 90s have been found dead in a property in the picturesque port town of Sandwich.

Kent Police said it received reports of concern for two people in the area. The Sandwich area councillor for Dover District Council, Dan Friend, said there was a “multi-agency operation” underway and that the incident had been contained with there being no threat to the public.

“There will be a heightened police presence for the rest of today at least,” Mr Friend said in a post on Facebook. Later, Kent Police said two people in their 90s had been confirmed dead at the scene.

“Officers attended and two people in their 90s were pronounced deceased at the scene,” a statement said. “Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing but police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."

A number of ambulances responded to the scene amid a significant presence from emergency services. The pensioners were found at an address in a narrow street known as ‘The Butchery’ in Kent. In response to Mr Friend’s social media post, one person called the incident "very sad."

Elsewhere, police in Scotland confirmed the body of a woman, 33, had been found in a community park last week. The tragic discovery was confirmed by members of the force, who say the find was made in a residential area in Borrowstounness. The find was made in seaport town, which officers attending the scene in the Central Lowlands area confirmed on July 6. Officers say they had received reports of an "unwell woman" in the area.

Later confirmation was brought by paramedics, who attended the scene alongside other emergency services. They convened on Calder Park near Deanfield Road at around 9.15pm on Friday, July 5. The unnamed woman was pronounced dead at the scene and is currently unexplained. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a report is due to be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.
