Former Cabinet Minister Simon Clarke was one of Liz Truss’s main cheerleaders.

He served by her side when her disastrous economic policies crashed the economy.

But, today Mr Clarke had the gall to tell nurses relying on foodbanks they needed to “budget better and take responsibility”.

If this Tory MP spent less time flinging insults and more time thinking before he opened his mouth he might have realised it was his Government’s irresponsible Budget that drained the Treasury of the resources that could have funded our public services.

He also might have realised nurses have been forced to take industrial action because their average salaries have fallen by 8% in real terms since 2010, leaving them unable to afford basics such as heating and eating.
