CBB’s Colson Smith didn’t realise there was one thing he was consuming in huge amounts that wasn’t normal and was adding to his weight struggles.

During a late night chat in the garden of the Celebrity Big Brother house, Coronation Street actor Colson Smith spoke frankly and honestly about his weight battles with Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and David Potts. During their chat he revealed he had lost a lot of weight but when he first started to diet it wasn’t in the healthiest of ways.

"I lost weight when I was 18 through quite a strict diet and then, what I found was that I was gaining weight and then I’d try and diet again, the way I thought I needed to diet," he said before revealing that he started to binge and starve.

"I wouldn’t eat for a day and a half. I'd just starve myself and then I’d be that hungry that I would like," he continued as Sharon added: "The floodgates would burst."

Colson explained: "I used to drive to KFC and I used to order three meals and then I would hate myself so I wouldn’t eat again for a day and a half and it would be that for months and months and months."

The Corrie star, who plays policeman Craig Tinker in the ITV soap, has detailed his weight loss journey before in a 2021 YouTube film called Bored of Being the Fat Kid. In it he revealed he had struggled with his weight since joining the soap as a kid aged 11 when he would receive online abuse because of it. His first diet was for 100 days before the National Television Awards, which was the period he was talking to Sharon about. But he rewarded himself with a burger and two pasties because he had "forgotten how to eat" and realised it was a "level of self-harm I was doing to myself through food".

One major change that Colson made to his diet in 2019 was to cut out the huge amounts of fizzy drinks he was consuming - a habit he thought everyone had. He said of his unhealthy routine: "I will have been drinking five pints of diet coke every day, I didn't know that wasn't normal."

Colson signed up with a life coach called Rob, who helped him transform his appearance and physical and mental health with the help of meal packages and gym sessions. When he met Rob he was around 22 stone but his lifestyle changes meant he lost around 10 stone. Colson also developed a love of running and he now incorporates it into his routine where possible.

"I started to like myself and respect myself and I realised I deserved the respect," he said about his new regime. During his chat with the other CBB contestants he shared how he’s much happier with himself. Colson said: "I am glad that I've done what I've done the way that I've done it and like I have the level of control that I've got, because it's like I have a discipline, but then I also understand myself."
