Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott spark major engagement speculation with photo
Fans of Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott said they were expecting to see an engagement ring in a recently shared photo of the couple from a holiday abroad.
Sam, 31, and Zara, 27, have been in a relationship since 2019, with the couple having kept fans updated on their romance in the years since then. Some fans have been hoping they will get engaged, with there being speculation just last year.
There's been renewed interest in the prospect this week following their trip to Dubai. They have since returned home but a few days ago Sam, who won I'm a Celebrity last year, shared a selfie of the pair soaking up the sun.
The photo, which was shared on Instagram, appeared to show Sam and Zara lying beside each other at a beach. Sam was shirtless and sported a silver pendant around his neck, whilst Zara modelled what seemed to be a red bikini. Alongside it, the former wrote in the caption: "What a trip."
OK! magazine suggested that the photo looked like it could have been an engagement announcement at first glance, with what appeared to be Zara's manicured left hand on display. There wasn't a ring on it though.
Love Island fans blown away by Ron's huge home as they say 'he's filthy rich'The photo prompted attention on the platform though over the prospect. Some people suggested that they had thought it was an engagement post in the comment section, whilst others expressed hope for a proposal in the future.
One person wrote: "I was expecting a ring in this picture then!" Someone else said: "Thought there maybe a ring on that finger this time." A third shared the sentiment, writing: "Omg thought there would be an engagement here."
"I was looking for an engagement ring," another fan reacted to the photo. Someone else said: "I thought there might have been a ring on that pic." Sharing their hope for an engagement, one person wrote: "MARRY HER ALREADY!"
Another comment read: "Thought the time had finally come." Someone asked: "When is the flipping WEDDINGGG." The couple were also described as the "dream team" and several people included ring emojis in their comments.
Not everyone felt the same though. One fan wrote: "Jesus, all the comments about a ring. Why do they need to get engaged? They are happy as they are. People need to relax!" Someone else said: "Can't believe in this day and age people are still on about a ring?! I thought time had moved on."
The couple were also met with support over a potential engagement last week when Sam shared a photo of them on International Women's Day. Earlier this year though, addressing the prospect of a proposal, he stated: "I'm so happy being with the person I know I'm going to spend the rest of my life with, I don't see any sort of rush at all."
