One of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour is here as golf fans get ready to watch The Players Championship.

2024 marks the 50th edition of the tournament at TPC Sawgrass which sees the majority of the world’s top 50 battle for the coveted prize and the $4.5m first prize money for the winner. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler comes in as the man to beat after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational by five shots.

That marked his seventh championship win in two years and his consistency is further illustrated by his ability to give himself chances to win events. Scheffler has finished inside the top 12 in 25 of his last 30 tournaments and the last time he missed the cut at an event was August 2022. Therefore, the defending champion may be the favourite in the eyes of many to retain the Players Championship crown.

But the likes of Rory McIlroy will look to find his best form just a month away from the Masters and get closer to Scheffler at the top of the golf rankings. Having won the title back in 2019, the Northern Irishman certainly knows his way around the course in Florida.

However, the likes of FedExCup champion Viktor Hovland cannot be counted out as he searches for his first win of the season, while Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Fitzpatrick aim to make history by becoming the first Englishman to win the Players Championship. To make sure you see who comes out on top at TPC Sawgrass, Mirror Sport has all the details.
