A body has been found and identified as part of the search for a missing man who disappeared one week ago.

On Wednesday evening a body believed to be that of Robert Drysdale was found, but a formal identification still needs to take place, although his family has been informed, The Daily Record reports. The 58-year-old was reported missing from Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland on Friday, March 8. Police have said his death is currently being treated as unexplained - however there do not seem to be any suspicious circumstances.

A Police Scotland statement reads: "The body of a man has been found during searches for missing 58-year-old Robert Drysdale from Johnstone. He is yet to be formally identified but his next of kin has been informed. His death is being treated as unexplained but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances. Enquiries are ongoing."

According to the police, he was last spotted on the Glenpatrick Road area of the Renfrewshire town at 12pm on Friday, March 8.. Officers said that Robert departed the area wearing a maroon coloured Toyota RAV 4, with the registration number VO68 UEG. He was 6ft 1 in and had thinning grey hair. Mr Drysdale was last spotted wearing a grey puffer jacket with burgundy piping, dark trousers, dark shoes with a white sole and a medium sized black rucksack.

Sergeant Martin McKirdy previously said of the search: “We are asking members of the public to keep a look out for Robert as we are becoming increasingly concerned for his welfare. It is possible that he has taken a drive up the west coast and therefore we are keeping an open mind about how far he could have travelled. Officers are carrying out a number of enquiries and searching areas he would normally frequent to check he is safe and well but would ask anyone who has seen him or his vehicle to get in touch with us."
